The Greenville City Schools After School Program is our “flagship” program, having started in the fall of 2016. Our initial enrollment was 39 students. Enrollment in the fall of 2019 was 101 students, and had grown to 109 students when schools had to close in March. In order to meet the challenge of increasing requests for help, we have had to adapt our approach each year.

This year, due to its size, grade levels and number of students in one building, the District has unique social distancing challenges. We are limited to the Elementary side of the building for the first semester, and hope to bring in the Middle School students following the Christmas break. Our current focus will be reading and math.

We will have one tutor working with two students at a table that allows for social distancing. Working with the students will be teachers, experienced tutors and supervised Edison State volunteers. Enrollment will be based upon matching tutors with students making a reasonable commitment for specific days. We need teachers, substitute teachers, experienced tutors and volunteers… for every adult, college or high school student willing to make a commitment, we can enroll two students who need help.

There have been many, many success stories with students achieving wonderful academic advancement. Empowering Darke County Youth – Greenville will continue to strive for successful students.
